Obtaining visas
There are many different visas available for potential migrants, from one-year working visas, to sponsored visas where you must meet certain criteria, such as living and working in a particular state or for a particular company, to those offering permanent residency without any ties, such as ours. Migration agents
We used a migration agent as we had a tight timeline to meet before Fran lost five of the points we needed to qualify for a residency visa. They can save time and know what they are doing, but can also be quite expensive. At least 50% of the money we spent obtaining our visas went to the agent. Their websites often contain simple questionnaires that will inform you if you are eligible for a visa.
You can complete applications yourself using information from the Australian Government and many people who have been through the experience will happily offer advice through the many expat forums in existence on the internet (see elsewhere). If you do decide to opt for the peace of mind of an agent, first make sure they are MARA registered. Here are a few options:
